Paul Goodwin Interview with artist Raimi Gbadamosi (20th of October 2010)

In this interview Paul Goodwin talks to artist Raimi Gbadamosi about the process and practice of working collaboratively as an artist with young people on projects and discusses the implications of working in the context of cultural diversity policies, Britishness and heritage.

Raimi Gbadamosi is an artist, writer and curator and received his Doctorate in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art. He has been commissioned to work on a number of projects for the Tate Britain Learning department, including Tate Shift, Conversation Pieces (with Paul Goodwin), Late at Tate and the Tate research project, Tate Encounters. He is a member of the Interdisciplinary Research Group Afroeuropeans, University of Leon, Spain, and the 'Black Body' group, Goldsmiths College, London. He is also on the Editorial board of Third Text. Recent national and international shows and events include: Serious Play, London 2011, Exchange Mechanism, Belfast 2010; ARCO Madrid 2009; Tentativa De Agotar Un Lugar Africano, CASM, Barcelona 2008; Human Cargo, Plymouth Museum & Art Gallery, Plymouth 2007; Port City, Arnolfini, Bristol 2007. Paul Goodwin was Curator: Cross-cultural Programmes, in the Learning Department of Tate Britain from 2007-2010. In this role he created platforms for cultural engagement by programming talks, symposia, workshops and live art events working with artists including Raimi Gbadamosi and is currently working in the Curatorial Department of Tate Britain. He is co-editor of Under-construction (DG Artes, 2009) an interdisciplinary study of the relationship between shanty towns and the central city in Lisbon, Portugal and curator of the Under-construction exhibition in Lisbon in May 2009. Paul worked as a consultant curator for Afro Modern: Journeys through the Black Atlantic at Tate Liverpool, 2010.
