Activities: Ways of looking

These pages contain suggestions of ways in which you might use Cornelia Parker's installation Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View as a starting point for discussion and practical activities. The discussion points are grouped under four Ways of Looking: these represent broad areas of interest and often overlap.

Group discussion, with its emphasis on both talking and listening, testing opinions and building on pupils' responses, is fundamental and will inform the follow-up activities.

There are suggested activities for both Primary and Secondary pupils. Please adapt them to the needs of your pupils.

At various points you will find suggested links to other parts of the site. By using these links your pupils will be able to explore aspects of Cold Dark Matter in greater detail, discovering how the artist and others have discussed the work and how it relates to other fields of knowledge.
